MEDICAL CARE
All clients are encouraged to retain their current general practitioner if at all possible, they are advised of their right to decide on the choice of a general practitioner. The decision to call in the general practitioner is only taken after consultation with the client concerned. If for any reason the client is unwilling to consent, then we would need to consider consulting with the client's next of kin, advocate or designated representative to consider what course of action should be followed.
Facilities are provided for the client to be examined in private by his/her general practitioner in his/her own room and with whomsoever they might wish to be present, although the client is encouraged to attend the surgery whenever practical.
Arrangements for the provision of medical treatment for clients are made in accordance with guidelines agreed with our Registration Authority, but subject to that, our policy is that the person or persons responsible for the administration of medicines to clients are clearly identified and named in our Administration Guidelines.
The administration of drugs is always in accordance with instructions given by the client’s general practitioner or dentist. Each client is encouraged to have knowledge of their own medicines whenever possible, their records noted accordingly and safe storage arranged and regular Risk Assessments are undertaken for each individual. All medications on the premises, when not in use are kept in a locked cupboard. If a client fails or refuses to take any prescribed drugs, the client's general practitioner is advised. All staff administering medication will be suitably trained by a qualified person.
